A process is described for isomerizing a feed which contains ethylbenzene and xylene, which process comprises the steps of: a) contacting the feed under ethylbenzene conversion conditions with a particulate first catalyst component which comprises a molecular sieve having a Constraint Index of 1-12, the particles of said first catalyst component having a surface to volume ratio of 80 to less than 200 inch-I and the contacting step converting ethylbenzene in the feed to form an ethylbenzene-depleted product; and then b) contacting the ethylbenzene-depleted product under xylene isomerization conditions with a second catalyst component.
L'invention concerne un procédé permettant d'isomériser une charge d'alimentation renfermant de l'éthylbenzène et du xylène, lequel procédé consiste : (a) à mettre la charge d'alimentation, dans des conditions de transformation de l'éthylbenzène, au contact d'un premier catalyseur en particules comprenant un tamis moléculaire présentant un indice de contrainte de 1-12, les particules dudit catalyseur ayant un rapport surface/volume compris entre 80 et moins de 200 pouces<-1> et l'opération de mise en contact transformant l'éthylbenzène de la charge en un produit appauvri en éthylbenzène; puis (b) à mettre le produit appauvri en éthylbenzène au contact d'un second catalyseur dans des conditions d'isomérisation du xylène.
