ABSTRACT A yieldable stilt of improved design, suitable for use with a roadway support in a mine, takes the form of a generally tubular member, means for reducing at least one cross-sectional dimension thereof and at least one longitudinal indentation extending over at least a major portion of the length of the generally tubular member. The generally tubular member may be of rectangular or square cross-section and may be open down one side thereof. The dimension-reducing means may then comprise means, for example one or more nuts and bolts, for narrowing the opening in said side.
