The present invention relates to gastrointestinal cancers and methods for selecting a treatment for said gastrointestinal cancer in a subject. The present invention further relates to a methods of diagnosing the presence of and/or classifying the severity of a gastrointestinal cancer; together with methods for determining the effect of a therapy administered and/or the prognosis for a subject suffering from a gastrointestinal cancer, before, during or after administering the treatment. For all the methods applies that a determined level of YKL-40 above one or more reference levels indicates the treatment, the severity of the disease, the effect of the treatment and/or the prognosis of the subject. The reference level is typically a level obtained from healthy individuals or a level previously obtained from the same subject. The subject may suffer from any one or more gastrointestinal cancers, such as upper gastrointestinal cancers, and metastatic colorectal cancer. The present invention further relates to a kit and a device that may be used in the method of the present invention.

La présente invention concerne les cancers gastro-intestinaux et des procédés de sélection dun traitement pour ledit cancer gastro-intestinal chez un sujet. La présente invention concerne en outre un procédé de diagnostic de la présence et/ou de classification de la gravité dun cancer gastro-intestinal ; conjointement à des procédés de détermination de leffet dune thérapie administrée et/ou du pronostic pour un sujet souffrant dun cancer gastro-intestinal, avant, pendant ou après ladministration du traitement. Pour tous les procédés, sapplique le fait quun niveau déterminé de YKL-40 supérieur à un niveau de référence ou plus indique le traitement, la gravité de la maladie, leffet du traitement et/ou le pronostic du sujet. Le niveau de référence est typiquement un niveau obtenu dindividus sains ou un niveau préalablement obtenu du même sujet. Le sujet peut souffrir dun cancer gastro-intestinal, ou plus, quelconque, tel que le cancer du tractus gastro-intestinal supérieur, et un cancer colorectal métastatique. La présente invention concerne en outre un kit et un dispositif qui peuvent être utilisés dans le procédé de la présente invention.
