The present invention relates to monoclonal anti-human YKL- antibodies which are capable to modulate biological processes in which YKL-40 plays a prominat role, e.g. inhibit the growth and/or inducing apoptosis of cells, in particular cancer cells. The invention also relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising said antibodies and uses said antibodies and/or pharmaceutical compositions for treatment of a disease wherein inhibition of cell growth, cell differentiation, remodelling of extracellular matrix, metastasis and/or induction of cell death due to apoptosis is a prerequisite for successful curing. An antibody of the invention is capable of inhibiting biological function of YKL-40 in the above mentioned processes by binding to a specific epitope on YKL-40.
L'invention concerne des anticorps YKL anti-humains monoclonaux pouvant moduler les processus biologiques dans lesquels YKL-40 joue un rôle important, par exemple inhiber la croissance et/ou induire l'apoptose de cellules, en particulier celles du cancer. L'invention concerne également des compositions pharmaceutiques comprenant ces anticorps et leurs utilisations et/ou des compositions pharmaceutiques pour le traitement d'une maladie où l'inhibition de la croissance cellulaire, la différentiation cellulaire, le remodelage de la matrice extracellulaire, la métastase et/ou l'induction de la mort cellulaire due à l'apoptose constituent un préalable d'une guérison réussie. Un tel anticorps peut inhiber la fonction biologique de YKL-40 dans les processus précités en se liant à un épitope spécifique sur YKL-40.
