A B S T R A C T The invention relates to a new crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having a specific X-ray powder diffraction pattern and the following composition expressed in moles of the oxides: 0.7-1.3 Na2O.Al2O3. 3.5-7.5 SiO2. 0.01-2 MOn/2.0-12 H2O, where M is a metal of Group VIII of the Periodic System of Elements having the valency n. After dehydration of the zeolite at 10-6 Torr and 400°C and measured at a hydrocarbon pressure of 100 Torr and a temperature of 100°C, the adsorption of n-hexane is at least 500 µmoles/g and the ratio of the number of µmoles/g n-hexane adsorbed to the number of µmoles/g 2,3-dimethylbutane adsorbed is at least 8. The invention also relates to a process for preparing the new zeolite by keeping an aqueous mixture having the following composition expressed in moles of the oxides 2-10 Na2O.Al2O3. 8-20 SiO2. 0.01-2.5 MOn/2. 100-450 H2O, at a temperature between 70 and 160°C. The new zeolite is suitable as molecular sieve, catalyst and catalyst carrier for the separation and the conversion of hydrocarbons, particularly shape-selective hydrocracking of normal paraffins in mixtures with other hydrocarbons.
