Described herein is a multiple layer absorbent core having a front ear section, a crotch section and a back ear section, wherein the machine direction length of the crotch section equals the combined machine direction length of the front ear section and the back ear section, the angle and radii forming the transition from the crotch width to the ear width being equal, the core being suitable for use in an absorbent article, and a method for manufacturing such multiple layer absorbent core. The method comprises providing a single web (10) of absorbent core material from a roll, in which the web having parallel straight longitudinal side edges; continuously transporting the web of absorbent core material in the machine direction; continuously cutting (12) the web of absorbent core material longitudinally into web sections having at least one full-pattern strip (14) having a repeating hourglass-shape and first (16) and second (18) side trim pieces each of the side trim pieces having a straight edge defined by one of the parallel straight longitudinal side edges of the web and an opposite non-linear longitudinal edge having a pattern corresponding to one of the longitudinal edges of the full-pattern strip (14); continuously orienting the side trim pieces relative to the full-pattern strip (14) such that the ear sections and said crotch section of the side trim pieces are superimposed in registration with said full-pattern strip (14) to form a continuous multiple layer composite strip (24); and successively cutting the composite strip (24) in the transverse direction at predetermined intervals to form discrete multiple layer absorbent cores (26).
L'invention porte sur une âme absorbante multicouche présentant une section avant munie d'oreilles, une section d'entrejambe et une section arrière munie d'oreilles, la longueur de la section d'entrejambe dans le sens machine étant égale à la somme des longueurs dans le sens machine des sections avant et arrière, les angles et rayons de raccordement entre la largeur de l'entrejambe et celle des oreilles étant égaux, et l'âme absorbante pouvant s'utiliser dans un article absorbant. L'invention porte également sur un procédé de fabrication de ladite âme absorbante consistant à, partant d'une nappe unique (10) de matériau absorbant en rouleau à bords longitudinaux latéraux droits et parallèles, à faire avancer la nappe en continu dans le sens machine; puis à découper (12) en continu la nappe de matériau d'âme absorbante dans le sens longitudinal en sections comportant au moins une bande répétitive présentant la forme définitive (14) en sablier ainsi qu'une première découpe (16) et une seconde découpe (18) latérales présentant un bord droit correspondant à l'un des bords droits longitudinaux latéraux et parallèles de la nappe et un bord longitudinal opposé non rectiligne dont le dessin est le pendant de celui de l'un des bords longitudinaux de la bande de forme définitive (14); à déplacer en continu les découpes latérales par rapport à la bande de forme définitive (14) de manière que les parties constituant les oreilles et l'entrejambe des découpes latérales se trouvent superposées et en coïncidence avec les bandes de forme définitive (14), afin de former une bande continue composite multicouche (24); puis à découper transversalement ladite bande composite (24) à intervalles donnés pour former des âmes absorbantes multicouches distinctes (26).
