Disclosed are aqueous solutions for use in high energy, highly efficient electrical energy storage devices. The solutions contain (a) a high purity sulfonic acid with a low concentration of low valent sulfur compounds or higher valent sulfur compounds susceptible to reduction, (b) a metal or metals in an oxidized state that are capable of being reduced to the zero valent oxidation state, (c) a metal that is in an oxidized state that is incapable of being reduced to its metallic state and (d) optionally, a buffering agent and/or conductivity salts.

L'invention concerne des solutions aqueuses utilisées dans des dispositifs électriques de stockage d'énergie à haute énergie et à grand rendement. Ces solutions contiennent : (a) un acide sulfonique de grande pureté présentant une faible concentration de composés sulfurés à faible valence ou des composés sulfurés à valence plus élevée sensibles à la réduction, (b) un ou plusieurs métaux dans un état oxydé pouvant être réduits à l'état d'oxydation à valence nulle, (c) un métal dans un état d'oxydation pouvant être réduit à son état métallique, et enfin, (d) éventuellement, un tampon et/ou des sels de conductivité.
