The present invention relates to the use of ZnT-1, originally described as a zinc transporter, in the regulation of L-type calcium channels (LTCC). In this study, the inventors have unexpectedly demonstrated that ZnT-1 physically interacts with LTCC, regulating its function. Most importantly, the inventors have shown that ZnT-1 can regulate intracellular Ca2+ influx, and thus, its intracellular concentration. This is the first demonstration of a natural blocker for LTCC, and it is a promising breakthrough as a potential agent to be used in the treatment and/or prevention of cardiovascular diseases and related indications.
L'invention concerne l'utilisation de ZnT-1, initialement décrit comme transporteur de zinc, dans la régulation de canaux calcium de type L (LTCC). Dans cette étude, les inventeurs ont démontré que, de façon inattendue, ZnT-1 entre en interaction avec LTCC, régulant ainsi sa fonction. Sous un aspect qui est le plus important, les inventeurs ont montré que ZnT-1 peut réguler l'influx Ca¿2+? intracellulaire, et par conséquent, sa concentration intracellulaire. Ceci est la première démonstration d'un bloqueur naturel pour LTCC et représente une découverte prometteuse d'un agent potentiel utilisable pour le traitement et/ou la prévention des maladies cardiovasculaires et des indications qui s'y rattachent.
