ABSTRACT An athletic boot, particulary an ice skate, is disclosed in which laces are dispensed with but a firm and comfortable fit is still obtained, by the expedient of providing a removable secondary tongue, lying over the ordinary boot tongue in use, secured by a pair of zippers to the quarters of the boot. An insole is preferably placed in the boot, the thickness of which is selected to cooperate with the dimensions of the removable secondary tongue to insure proper fitting of the boot to the wearer's foot and to provide a range of adjustment in fit by the choice of different widths of gusset and thickness of insole.
