The invention concerns an alloy containing at least 95 wt. % of zirconium and between 0.01 and 0.1 wt. % of sulphur and optionally at least one of the elements from the group consisting of: tin, iron, chromium, hafnium, niobium, nickel, oxygen, vanadium, the rest of the alloy consisting of the inevitable impurities. Sulphur is present in the alloy in dissolved state, thereby improving deformation endurance and in the form of fine precipitates evenly distributed, thereby improving corrosion and sun burst. Resistance. The alloy can be thermally treated by quench annealing in phase .beta. followed by hardening or by being maintained at a temperature less than 950 ·C to produce a transformation in phase .alpha. or .alpha. + .beta..
L'alliage renferme en poids au moins 95 % de zirconium et de 0,01 à 0,1 % de soufre ainsi qu'éventuellement l'un au moins du groupe constitué par les éléments étain, fer, chrome, hafnium, niobium, nickel, oxygène, vanadium, le reste de l'alliage étant constitué par des impuretés inévitables. Le soufre est présent dans l'alliage à l'état dissous, ce qui améliore la tenue au fluage et sous forme de fins précipités répartis uniformément, ce qui améliore la tenue à la corrosion et à l'hydruration. L'alliage peut être traité thermiquement par recuit de mise en solution en phase .beta. suivi d'une trempe ou par un maintien à une température inférieure à 950 ~C pour réaliser une transformation en phase .alpha. ou .alpha. + .beta..
