The invention concerns a zirconium and niobium alloy comprising erbium as burnable neutron poison. The invention also concerns a method for preparing and transforming said alloy and a component containing said alloy. Said alloy is particularly designed for making sheathings and/or other elements or structural parts for nuclear fuel reactor assemblies using water as coolant.
