ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The zeolite ferrierite is prepared by a process of hydrothermal crystallisation in the presence of N-methyl pyridinium hydroxide. The synthetic ferrierite finds application in separation of hydrocarbons by preferential absorption, e.g. separation of p-xylene from mixtures comprising m-xylene, p-xylene, o-xylene and ethylbenzene.
