ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus for atomizing a liquid fuel for a petrol engine or an engine with central fuel injection, in which combustion air is fed to a carburettor downstream of a throttle valve and a fuel injection device through two opposed slots in the suction manifold. The slots are so dimensioned that, in consequence of the low pressure prevailing in the suction system of the engine, the combustion air at idle and/or at transition and partial load conditions flows from the slots at substantially the speed of sound in a direction which is substantially perpendicular to the direction of suction.
