ABSTRACT There is disclosed a process for the preparation of aryl-1,1,2,2- tetrafluoroethyl ethers by reacting phenols with tetrafluoroethylene at a normal atmospheric or reduced pressure. The reaction is carried out in a water-miscible polar inert solvent in the presence of about 0.05 to about 0.5 mole of an alkali metal hydroxide per each equivalent of phenolic hydroxy group at a temperature of 50 to 150°C. The process is particularly advantag- eous in that it does not require a high pressure for the reaction which is required in conventional processes.
