ABSTRACT A keyless, mechanical lock is described in which a correctly operated sequence of push buttons causes unlocking. Unlike known devices of this type the required force exerted on the push buttons does not increase as the operator goes through the correct sequence so that the code cannot be deduced by feeling this increased force. The device involves the use of two position inserts having cutouts and in functional connection, respectively, with the push buttons. These inserts in the coded arrangement block the shifting of a rack when in a neutral position. The inserts allow the shifting of the rack in the cutouts in the position displaced by a pushbutton. The inserts in non-coded arrangement allow shifting of the rack in the cutouts when in neutral position and they block the shifting in the position displaced by the corresponding button.
