ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention comprises an induction motor which comprises a ring stator formed of a plurality of poles each wound with a coil and a ring rotor floating above the stator ring which when the coil is energised rotates above the stator with a small air gap and when provided with vanes operates as a pump, fluid being fed to the motor and delivered therefrom. Alternatively the rotor may be sandwiched between two ring stators. The motor may be employed as a pump, a conveyor or for cooling gasses from a nuclear reactor and other purposes, by providing a pressure head discharged across the rotor.
