Abstract of the Disclosure The specification discloses a dental composition containing about 0.1 to 5 % by weight (as molybdenum) of a molybdate compound based on the total weight of the composition. and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent. The composition prevents or inhibits dental caries. The composition exhibits its anticarious effect by inhibiting both digestion of the soft tissue in teeth by a protease and decalcification of the hard tissue in teeth by an acid.
