ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A programmable real-time clock, for use in an energy load controller system, comprises a crystal-controlled oscillator and divider means for obtaining a fixed number of pulses in a selected time interval; a group of counters are utilized to count the accurate pulses to derive keeping information. A battery back-up means is available to allow the timekeeping function to continue even if mains power is temporarily lost. Address decoder means and input/output bus driver means are utilized to allow the day, hour and minute information present in the timekeeping counters to be accessed under programmable control, when the real- time clock is used in a microcomputer-based system.
