ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A diffusion device has a plurality of stacked plates and overlying membranes, in which one face of the plates defines a profiled surface to define flow channels thereacross. A line of spaced, projecting teeth on one edge of the plates defines flow channels communicating across the plate edge between the plate surface and the exterior adjacent the plate edge. The teeth of each plate are overlaid and surrounded by a membrane. Blood passing between the teeth across each plate is separated from the plate by its associated membrane.
