ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION The invention relates to novel imidazoisoindole- dione compounds having the structure: Image (I) wherein X is N, CH3, NO2, Cl, OCH3 or SCH3; R1 is alkyl C1-C4; R2 is alkyl C1-C6, cycloalkyl C3-C6, alkenyl C2-C4, phenyl, halophenyl or benzyl; and when R1 and R2 are taken together with the carbon to which they are attached they may form cycloalkyl C3-C6 optionally substituted with methyl; and the optical isomers thereof and to a method for the control of undesirable plant species with the imidazoiso- indolediones and their optical isomers, and further, to a process for the preparation of the compounds.
