ABSTRACT A controllable film holding and tensioning system for a movable intermediate film strip dis- pensing head (1) provides a stable and non-film damaging positioning of intermediate images car- ried on the film strip (71) as it is moved from an exposure station (10) to a final station (14) for image transfer to an archival microfiche film (20) under conditions where bowing stresses are applied to the intermeidate film (71) at one or more of the processing stations. An improved pretension- ing feature for the source reel (168) minimizes the occasional jamming encountered with conven- tional cassette film dispensers. Automatic pro- tection is provided by an intermediate film strip break sensor (A) and an end-of-film sensor (D) to guard against archival record loss from these causes. Unique film cassette designs are also described.
