ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Novel self-extinguishing polycarbonates consist of mixtures of halogen-free polycarbonates with at least one salt of metals of the I and/or the IIA and IIB Groups of the Periodic Table and/or ammonium salts of organic carboxylic compounds having the general formula (I): (HOOC)m - (A1)s1 - (X)i-(A2)s2 - (COOH)n (I). In this formula, A is a hydrocarbon radical, X is -SO2, =(CO)2N-, =N-R-N= (where R is aliphatic), S and m range from 0 to 5 and i is 0 or 1. The other component(s) of the mixture is selected from the group: halogen-substituted organic ethers, optionally halogen-substituted imides, optionally halogen-substituted organic sulfones and an inorganic adjuvant.
