ABSTRACT A slow-blow electrical fuse structure adapted to relatively simple mass assembly techniques features one or more conduting fuse links for high- current blow-out protection and located in individual chambers filled with arc-quenching filler and in thermal contact with a spring-loaded relatively massive piston-and-guide structure soldered into an extended position and similarly soldered to one of the fuse links by an extension leading through a chamber- separating insulating partition washer. At prolonged modest overload the heat from the fuse links melt the aforementioned soldered junctions, causing the spring to collapse the piston over the guide, simultaneously withdrawing it from the chamber wall through which it passes, thereby breaking the circuit. A similar chamber-defining washer is captively affixed to the opposite end of the piston-and-guide assembly affixed to the optional second fuse link, both partition- forming washers being captively secured to the ends of the piston-and-guide assembly by a specially configured apertures therein which allow slide-on assembly over the ends of the structure followed by rotational captive locking engagement when in position which provides a sealing feature against filler leakage. Both washers are configured with respect to engaging portions of the piston-and-guide assembly to be rigidified thereby to facilitate snugly fitting insertion of the assembly into a cylindrical housing passage during manufacture of the fuse. A modified version of these support washers allows the placement of multiple fuse assemblies to be captively secured to two washers, and provision is made to allow for a similar locking washer engagement for structures having multiple parallel confronting fuse link elements affixed to the piston-and-guide assembly.
