ABSTRACT A method for producing isopropyl alcohol and isopropyl tert-butyl ether from a mixture of light hydro- carbons containing propane and butane, characterized in that, a propane and a butane fraction are separated, n-butane is isomerized, butane and propane are cata- lytically dehydrogenated, propene is converted with water into isopropyl alcohol and this is at least partially etherified with the isobutene contained in the dehydro- genation reaction mixture thereby forming isopropyl tert- butyl ether, while unconverted hydrocarbons from the propene hydration and unconverted isobutane from the etherification are recycled to the dehydrogenation stage.
