A B S T R A C T A device for decelerating heavy rollable objects during their travel down an inclined ramp comprises, a raceway with a number of longitudinal recesses therein and a plurality of segmented conduits filled with a fluid and protruding partly above the surface of the raceway. Examples of such rollable objects are rolls of newsprint released from the manufacturing line, oil drums or hot water tanks.
