ABSTRACT A dilute aqueous solution of an organic compound is concentrated by adsorbing the compound on an adsorbent carbon bed and eluting the compound from the carbon by applying vapors of a volatile solvent to the bed maintained at or slightly below the condensation temperature of the solvent, at a rate of less than about one half bed volume per hour, until the solvent is detected in the eluate. The elution is then continued until about one half additional bed volume of eluate is collected which contains a concentrated aqueous solution of the compound in the solvent. Solvent is then evaporated to obtain an aqueous solution of the compound containing at least 30% of the compound by weight.
