ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In the polymerization of monomeric vinyl chloride alone or admixed with another copolymerizable monomer or monomers, deposition of polymer scale can be prevented by coating or treating, prior to polymerization, the surfaces of the inner wall and other parts of a polymerization vessel coming into contact with the monomer or monomers with at least one compound selected from polar organic compounds and organic dyes and at least one selected from the halides, hydroxides, oxides and carboxylates of any metallic elements and oxoacids and inorganic salts thereof of elements belonging to pre- determined groups of the Periodic Table.
