ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Alloy fibers having high fluid-holding capacity are comprised of a matrix of regenerated cellulose having 5 to 25 weight percent of alkali metal salts of cellulose sulfate being dispersed therein. The sulfate salts may be present in com- bination with an anionic polymer. The high fluid-holding capacity is at least 4.8 ml per grams as measured by the Demand Absorption Test. The fluid holding capacity of the alloy fiber may be increased by subjecting the regenerated fibers to treatment with a cross-linking agent before finishing.
