Abstract A motor-compressor unit comprises a compressor piston (4) which can be driven by an excentric (9) of a motor shaft (6). A two-pole motor (2) driven by direct current comprises a motor (16) and a stator (10), one of which has permanently magnetic poles (17, 18) and the other poles (11, 12) which are excitable by at least one coil and the polarity of which can be changed with the aid of a control circuit depending on the rotary position of the rotor (16). The centre point of the excentric (9) is offset from the neutral line (19) of the rotor (16) by an angle of at least 30°. This facilitates starting, especially if the rotor has two defined rest positions which are offset from each other by less than 180°. Fig. 1 -1-
