ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for the production of compounds having activity as histamine H2-receptor antagonists and having the formula Image where Y is a lower alkyl group, and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof, in which 4-hydroxy- methyl-5-(2-aminoethyl)thiomethylimidazole is reacted with a dilower alkyl dithioiminocarbonate which is subsequently reacted with an amine of formula YNH2. The salts can be prepared by known methods.
