DOWN-THE-HOLE PERCUSSION HAMMER Abstract of the Invention A drill bit for a percussion hammer having a short tubular member extending upwardly from the anvil surface of the bit for sealingly engaging a like-sized bore in the hammer piston. The tubular member defines an annular recessed area on its external wall extending axially upwardly from adjacent the anvil surface to provide a volume for non-compressible liquid splashed onto the member from between the striking surfaces and thereby reduces stress forces on the relatively soft member.
