ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The removal of H2S gas from a normally gaseous stream is accomplished with an absorbent solution contain- ing a diaminoether wherein both amino groups either are severely sterically hindered secondary amino groups or are tertiary amino groups or wherein one amino group is a severely sterically hindered secondary amino group and the other amino group is a tertiary amino group. In a preferred embodiment the gaseous stream also contains CO2, and the H2S is selectively removed from the stream. A class of novel diaminoethers is particularly useful in the process for selectively removing H2S.
