A B S T R A C T PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF SYNTHESIS GAS Process and apparatus for producing a gas mixture containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide by partially combusting a carbon-containing fuel with an oxygen- containing gas in a reactor in which the product is quenched, the gas produced is separated from ash and slag and passed through a waste beat boiler, which is vertically positioned immediately below the reactor. The ash and slag are discharged through a vertical discharge means, which extends inside or alongside the waste heat boiler, into a slag bath.
