Le procédé de préparation de fluorures doubles d'uranium et d'ammonium (ou d'un métal alcalin ou alcalino-terreux) comporte les étapes suivantes. On réduit catalytiquement par l'hydrogène, en présence d'ions H+, d'une solution d'un sel d'uranium (VI) soluble en une solution d'un sel d'uranium (IV) soluble ; on fait réagir le sel d'uranium (IV) obtenu à l'étape précédente avec des ions fluorures, en présence d'ions ammonium, alcalin ou alcalino-terreux, pour obtenir la précipitation du fluorure double d'uranium et d'ammonium ou d'un métal alcalin ou alcalino-terreux; et on récupère le fluorure double sous forme de précipité.
