ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to a cationic hair conditioning composition comprising: (a) an amine oxide of the formula: Image wherein R1 and R2 are the same or different moieties and are selected from lower (C1 - C4) alkyl, alkoxy and hydroxy alkyl groups, and R3 is an alkyl group containing 8 to 22 carbon atoms; and (b) water sufficient acid to provide pH for said composition of from about 4.5 to about 2.4 or less and an amine oxide concentration from about 0.5% to about 10% based on the total weight of said hair conditioning composition.
