ABSTRACT A method and apparatus for applying a profile and adjacent ribs to a traveling film web to form a zipper-like closure. The device includes a first extrusion die for extruding a base member, and a pressure applying mechanism for joining the base member to the film web. A second extrusion die is provided for extruding a male profile member, a first rib member and a second rib member as three separate extrudates. The second extrusion die is designed to align the profile member, first rib member and second rib member on the film web such that the profile member is disposed between the first and second rib members.
