ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electrical machine with a rotor, a stator provided with a polyphase winding and a switching system that switches over to a different number of phases while the frequency and/or amplitude remain constant or are variable, characterized in that the switching system is structurally integrated with the machine, which may be operated optionally either as a generator with frequency and voltage amplitudes that can be varied while the rpm remains essentially the same, or as a motor with variable rpm at fixed frequency and amplitude of the power mains, this switching system being directly connected to the stator winding as a fixed structural component of the machine.
