ABSTRACT: The invention relates to a frequency converter including a controlled semiconductor switching element for supplying an electrodeless discharge lamp, an elec- tric coil of a parallel circuit associated with the fre- quency converter being coupled to a discharge path of the lamp. According to the invention a control circuit of the switching element, which is in the form of a VMOS, includes a transformer which results, in combination with two Zener diodes in a low-loss control of the VMOS and, hence, an increased system efficiency.
