ABSTRACT An apparatus and process for the formation of blocks of marble, stone and the like of size up to 305X125X80 cm from particles of marble, stone and the like of size up to 200 mm by the contemporaneous action of vibration, compression and vacuum. The particles are combined with a binder in a mixer to obtain a mixture which is mechanically mixed to ensure a homogeneous mixture. A vacuum is then created in the mixer to obtain a homogeneous mass free of voids and the mixture discharged into a mold in which a vacuum has also been created, the mold being maintained in motion. The mold is then introduced into a press in which a vacuum has been created. The mixture is simultaneously compressed and vibrated in the press by subjecting the mixture to the action of pneumatic cylinders impinging upon a beam which is in direct contact with the mixture; while maintaining the vacuum therein whereby the volume is reduced and blocks with no air voids are formed. The blocks are discharged from the press and the binder allowed to set.
