Abstract The present invention relates branched perfluoro- alkanes which, presenting bonds between a quaternary carbon atom and tertiary carbon atom, undergo easily homolytic scissions of the C-C bond, thereby releasing (non-persis- tent) radicals which, to this purpose, may be used as initiators of polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers. Further object of the present invention are new branched perfluoroalkanes having 9 carbon atoms belonging to the above described group.
