-1- Abstract The present invention relates to a process for the addition of metal elements into metal melts wherein the metal elements to be added are brought to a plasma state and in such a state the metal elements are transferred by means of an inert carrying gas to the metal melt. The metal elements are brought to the plasma state by forming an electric arc between electrodes formed by the metal elements wherein the metal elements are vaporized by energy produced by the arc. The process of the present invention is an economical process that provides an improved metal melt. Furthermore, this improved process permits regulation and control of the reaction.
