ABSTRACT A paging receiver having a built-in antenna is described. In conventional receivers of this type the effective loop aperture area of the antenna is reduced by proximity to the antenna of a metal member forming part of the receiver, which metal member is maintained at a potential equal to the ground potential of the antenna. This means a reduction in gain. To overcome this problem the receiver of the invention has a higher frequency operative cir- cuit section associated with the antenna circuit and a lower frequency operative circuit section. The receiver also has a high impedance circuit for connecting the two operative sections. The high impedance circuit exhibits a high impedance to the higher frequency so that the ground line of the lower frequency operative circuit section has a high impedance to the loop antenna. This increases the effective loop aperture area of the antenna thus improving the gain.
