ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A coin sorter for sorting mixed denominations of coins, includes: a rotatable resilient disc and a stationary sorter plate spaced from the disc; the sorter plate has a central opening so that coins may be placed on the disc, the sorter plate also has a series of guide surfaces opposing the disc and spaced closer to the disc than the thickness of the thinnest coin to be sorted; the guide surfaces pinch coins between the sorter plate and the disc and cause a single layer of coins of mixed denominations to form in a single file at the periphery of the disc as it rotates; said guide surfaces including an outer peripheral track surface at the periphery of the sorter plate with the single file of coins being pinched at the periphery between the track surface of the sorter plate and the disc; a plurality of graduated sorting stations is spaced about the periphery of the disc whereby coins are engaged and released from the pinch between the sorter plate and disc in descending order of their diameter.
