Abstract A check valve comprises a valve body connected with a piston by means of a piston rod . The piston is guided in a sleeve which is mounted in an inner casing . The sleeve has two axially offset radial openings through which the inner space of the sleeve is connected with the interior of the inner casing depending on the position of the piston . The design of the check valve allows the valve body to be brought relatively quickly into its closing position while the resulting pressure shock can be significantly reduced.
