- 1 - Abstract: An intraocular lens to be implanted into the eye to replace a natural lens comprises an optically clear optic portion, and at least one flexible haptic portion connected to and projecting outwardly from the periphery of the optic portion. The haptic portion has a first segment connected to the optic portion and extending from the optic portion at an acute angle relative to the periphery of the optic portion. The haptic portion also has a second segment extending from the first segment in an arc having (i) a radius of curvature smaller than the radius of the optic portion and (ii) a centre of curavture on the side of the haptic portion opposite the acute angle formed by the first segment of the haptic portion and the periphery of the optic portion. The haptic portion also includes a third segment extending from the second segment in an arc having a radius of curvature greater than the radius of the optic portion, the third segment terminating in a free end.
