PROTECTIVE CATHETER SLEEVE Abstract A protective catheter sleeve (12) for use with in- dwelling catheters, wires and the like, such as during long-term patient care, includes a surrounding flexible side wall (14), the upper end of which is adhesively secured about the catheter and the lower end of which is adhesively secured about the puncture site on the patient skin, to define a sealed chamber therein. A needle access port (38) is provided in the side wall (14) for replenishing/removing antiseptic fluid therein as necessary to minimize the chances of infection. A second embodiment (50) includes a resealable seam (52, 54) in the side wall to facili- tate removal/replacement of the protective catheter sleeve around an indwelling, transcutaneous catheter or other device without disturbing the sleeve.
