A POROUS CRYSTALLINE MATERIAL AND A METHOD OF PREPARING SAME ABSTRACT A novel crystalline zeolite identified as zeolite ZSM-51 has a composition in its dehydrated form expressed as mole ratios of oxides as follows: (X)R2O.(Y)M20.0-7 Al2O3 .100 SiO2 wherein X is a number ranging from 0.01 to 5, Y is a number ranging from 0.1 to 10, M is an alkali metal cation and R is selected from the group consisting of cobalticinium, dimethylpiperidinium, trimethylene bis trimethylammonium, and tetramethylpiperazinium. The crystalline material has the significant x-ray diffraction lines set forth in Table 1 of the specification and is produced from a reaction mixture containing a source of silica, an organic template R, an alkali metal (M) oxide, water, and optionally alumina, said mixture having a composition, in terms of mole ratios, of oxides falling within the following ranges: SiO2/A12O3 10- ? OH-/SiO2 0.005-1.0 M+/SiO2 0.001-5.0 H2O/SiO2 10-200 R/SiO2 0.01-3, the reaction mixture being maintained at 80°C to 180°C for 2 to 10days until the zeolite is formed.
