ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of and apparatus for drilling directional well bores is disclosed in which the well bore or a portion thereof is drilled along a line that follows, as close as possible, a preselected catenary curve. An extensible joint located between a stabilizer just above the drilling bit and a stabilizer spaced from the bit stabilizer is used to cause the bit to tend to increase the dip angle of the well bore at an increasing rate.
