ABSTRACT A linear stepping motor is described having a shaft comprised of a plurality of poles, each pole having a length defining a pole pitch, at least two magnetic flux paths each having a length defined by the pole pitch and spaced a predetermined distance apart, and at least two electrical coils each associated with the shaft and a corresponding one of the magnetic flux paths and energized for moving the shaft a distance determined by the pole pitch.
