Abstract of the disclosure A process for the preparation of chloro-o-nitroanilines of the formula (1) (1) Image in which R1 and R2 are hydrogen or chlorine atoms, by reaction of chloronitrobenzenes of the formula (2) (2) Image in which R1 and R2 have the meanings given above, with ammonia at an elevated temperature, by effecting the reaction at temperatures from about 120 to 200°C with anhydrous ammonia in the presence of aromatic hydrocarbons of the formula (3) (3) Image in which R3 is a C1-C4-alkyl group and R4 and R5 are hydrogen atoms or C1-C4-alkyl groups.
